Sky High (2005)

Date Watched

Sunday 22nd January 2012

Format

Netflix (High Definition)

With

Marie Faulkener, Samuel Sutton, Joseph Sutton

A couple of years ago I was sent Sky High on Blu-ray to review and I gave it a high mark, being very surprised with how good it actually was.  This morning, we needed something to keep all of us entertained and I started off with The Wizard on Netflix.  However it soon became clear that eighties = crap for children of today and we were gonna get absolutely nowhere with it.

So we started browsing through the Netflix catalogue on my ATV2 and up came several possibilities.  But Sky High was on there in HD and the children and Marie hadn’t seen it.  Joseph had heard of it though and was quite keen to give it a try.  So we fired it up.

The reality is, the film is one of those rare films that is made for children but keeps adults entertained too.  It does this with an extremely sharp and clever script, clever in-jokes (the villain who is actually good is Warren Peace), and some surprisingly brutal fight scenes for a child’s film.  Of course having the wonderful Bruce Campbell in a film never hurts and Kurt Russell is always good value.

Quality of streaming was actually again excellent and I am fast starting to become a convert of a technology I was originally against.

A thoroughly enjoyable couple of hours which kept all four of us entertained.

Carnage

First time I have ever entered a cinema on my own, as I normally would rather wait for the Blu-ray than do so, and it was not helped by the lady from Sky saying “are we alone tonight, Sir” as I gave her the ticket. ...
