ong planned for over the Christmas period, but incredibly difficult to fit in – we aimed this for the 29th literally nearly a month before when we were doing the christmas diaries. Things were that busy. When the day came round, we had had a late night the night before, and got up early for a bracing two mile walk at Horsey to see the seals – so by the time we got to the cinema we were pretty tired.
But if a film like this should be judged by how well it keeps the whole family entertained, then it certainly did the business. The children were enthralled, from Micah up to Samuel and the adults were heard to belly laugh on more than a few occasions. To be honest the film was more successful when riffing on the fact that puss is, indeed, a cat – and this is where the film is funniest. The action scenes are well mounted and the plot clever, but the humour isn’t always sustained through these scenes.
As for the 3D – it certainly wasn’t the best I’ve seen (Hugo, Avatar) but it also wasn’t the worse (Ice Age 3, Voyage of the Dawn Treader) so the reality is that it probably is worth catching in that format if you can. Sadly, the film had finished in IMAX by the time we got to see it so we had to make do with a digital 8K screen – but the picture was still excellent. Well recommended.
